1.
It is the nutrients.
2.
It is organic.
It
is the traditional natural fertilizer that provide slow release nutrients to
build natural soil fertility. Typically one ton of compost contain : 8 kgs of
Nitrogen, 6 kgs of Potassium and 3 kgs of Phosporus. Nutrients are release in a
slow manner, around 5-10% in the first years of application, which means when
applied at a rate of 250 kgs/ha total N, approximately only 25kgs/ha of N
will be released in the first year. This is also happen to Potassium and
Phosporus ( 15% released in the first year ). The benefit is to reduce the
nutriens possibility of leaching away. Repeated applications in the long run
will help soils to retain moisture for the longer periods and supports healthy
plants.
Organic
matter is the key indicator of soil health. Good organic matter levels increase
the workability and fertility of soils, improve soil structure and reduce the
risk of erosion as well as reduce the risk of damage to the environment.
It
is about 50% of our daily house-hold purchases have been thrown away and ended
in the town land fills that create , at least half of it are organic matter
that are easily turn to bokashi compost, by just separate them from non organic
and non recyclable organic matters ( big bones ), trash them down in
bokashi composting bucket, spread a layer of bokashi bran on it and close the
bucket lid. Wait for 2 weeks, buried them in your garden and voila, it is that
simple. No smell, no hazardous bacteria, and it come with bonus, our
healthy beautiful plant in our house garden.
It
is the time that we help our nature by doing this simple thing in our
house.
I just harvest my first
bokashi composting yesterday, and started my soil generator. Hopefully in 2
weeks time, I will get my first batch of compost.
How about you ?
